Chris Finlayson

Christopher Finlayson was a member of the New Zealand Parliament from 2005 until 30 January 2019 when he resigned to resume practice as a barrister. He was a minister in the New Zealand Government for nine years, and in particular:

  • Attorney General from 2008 to 2017 during which time he represented his country in the International Court of Justice in a case involving commercial whaling in the southern oceans;
  • Minister responsible for historic settlements with NZ’s indigenous peoples from 2008 to 2017;
  • Minister responsible for the intelligence agencies from 2014 to 2017;
  • Minister for Culture and Heritage from 2008 to 2014.
