Born in 1948 in Szekszárd. Following studies in Lutheran theology, he later took further sociology courses in Germany and France. He then served as a Lutheran pastor in small towns in Hungary. From 1978-88 he served as editor of the weekly newspaper of the Lutheran Church, later taking the position of editor-in-chief. Between 1988 and 1991 he was the General Secretary of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Hungary. From 1991 to present he is the President-Director of Hungarian Interchurch Aid. The organization is one of the biggest charity organizations in Hungary, operating a wide network of social institutions within the country and conducting significant humanitarian and development projects abroad. In recent years HIA placed special emphasis on supporting persecuted Christians in the Middle East through large-scale projects. He is also father of four children.
