Zoltán Balog is the Ambassador, special envoy and the Commissioner of the Prime Minister of Hungary and since 2007 the President of the Foundation for a Civic Hungary. He served as the Minister of Human Capacities from 2012 to 2018 and was responsible for family and youth issues, culture, education, sports, social inclusion, public health services, Church, ethnic and civil relations, and EU development policy. He was a National Assembly representative of the Fidesz fraction between 2006 and 2018. He studied Theology in Germany and serves as a Calvinist pastor of the Reformed Church in Hungary. In 1989 he was assigned by the Ecumenical Council of the Hungarian Churches and operated as the pastor of refugees from East Germany at the Refugee Camp of Csillebérc. In 2013 he received the Grand Cross of Merit with Star and Sash of the Federal Republic of Germany for maintaining German-Hungarian relations and acknowledging his activities for minorities and the protection of human rights.
